  • Blood lactate testing is a method to determine your training zones. It is used to measure the level of lactate in your blood during exercise by taking finger prick tests. Lactate is a substance that your body produces when it breaks down glucose for energy, especially when you're working hard, like during intense exercise.

  • The lactate threshold is the point at which your body starts producing lactate faster than it can clear it away. It's an important indicator of your exercise intensity and endurance capacity. By identifying your lactate threshold, we can determine the level of exercise intensity at which you can perform for an extended period without fatigue setting in too quickly.

  • Pre Test - Questionnaire pre arrival; consult with sports scientist on arrival regarding your training/performance; height and weight taken

  • Test

    1. 12-15 minute test on a treadmill

    2. Blood samples taken at rest, throughout the test and upon completion

    3. Heart rate taken throughout test to contrast with blood lactate values

    4. Training plan, training zones and lactate turn point with accompanying heart rate and predicted VO2 max available from results

  • Test Completion - When lactate threshold has been reached, which will feel like a intensity of 7/10 effort
